Individual Note: The Banns to this marriage referred to Elizabeth Jones, however theparish record of the marriage gave Elizabeth Hughes.
The Holywell Poor Law records for the period between the death of Johnin May 1842 and Elizabeth's death in February 1844 show that sheattempted to obtain financial relief on a number of occasions. Therecord for 22/7/1842 (G/B/134/256) soon after the funeral shows herliving at home with an unmarried daughter (presumably Margaret) andson (presumably Joseph). The 1841 Census for Elizabeth shows herliving with husband John at Penyffordd with Daughter Margaret, sonJoseph and John and Mary Jones)
The Outdoor relief record states that she had "lost her health" some 8years previously. She applied for relief either in or out of theworkhouse. The record notes that her son was "able bodied" and"supposed to be able to look after her". She was ordered to theworkhouse.
On the 14th October 1842 she applied again for relief. The recordshows that she now had a grandson living with them at Penyfordd. THisis most likely to be John Jones who was the son of John's daughterMary through her marriage to Edward Jones. The record notes that bothwere "able bodied men and able to support her. She was noted as being"partially unwell". This application and a later one on 17/3/1843 wererefused.
Elizabeth was still alive aged 85 in 1854 according to Holywell PoorLaw Union records.
