     It should be noted that the Pedigree contained in the William FarrerMSS in Manchester Archives L1/56/1/5 Pedigree of Holland Sheet 2shows Averia as marrying Adam de Ireland Lord of Hutt. Thiscontradicts William Fergusson Irvine in "A History of the Family ofHolland of Mobberley & Knutsford" (Edinburgh, Ballantyne Press, 1902),Page 8 who states that Robert & Elizabeth Samlesbury had three sonsRobert, William, Adam & a daughter Averia who married Adam Austyn ofIreland better known as Adam Ireland of the first House of Hale.

Individual Note:
     Richard de Holland died in 1402 seised of the manor of Kenyon as ofthe right of Amery his wife; it was held of the lord of Makerfield byknight's service and a rent of 4s.; Thurstan his son and heir was overthirty years of age; Towneley MS. DD, no. 1461. In later inquisi tionsthe tenure is described as socage, without rent; Duchy of Lanc. Inq.p.m. iv, no. 36, 58. Richard Holland died in 1619 holding the manorsof Kenyon and Lowton of the lord of Newton in socage, by a yearly rentof 18s.; Lancs. Inq. p.m. (Rec. Soc. Lancs. and Ches.), ii, 145.

Individual Note:
     Thurstan, whose widow Agnes was living in 1430 and 1438, left a sonof the same name. The younger Thurstan was in 1430 divorced from hisfirst wife, Margaret de Abram, and lived on till about 1461, his widowEllen being named in 1462. Richard the son and heir held the manorsof Denton and Kenyon, and messuages and lands in Heaton, Bolton leMoors, Wardley, Barton, Manchester, Pemberton, and Myerscough. In 1481he settled part of his lands on himself and Agnes his wife, with liferemainders to younger sons. His eldest son Richard succeeded him in1483, and in 1486 made provision for Joan daughter of John Arderne,who was to marry his son Thurstan. In the following year and in 1497he made provision for younger sons, and in 1499 granted messuages andlands in Bolton and Myerscough to his son Thurstan and Joan his wife.Richard Holland was living in 1500, but seems to have died soonafterwards.
