There is a reference to John Holland of Castell being overseer of thewoods in Llangelynnin for Edward Bulkeley in a quarter sessionsexamination (XQS/1655/20) relating to the theft of boughs some treesin the woods.

There is a reference in the Conwy PR for the marriage of John ap Owenand Gaynor vch Robert Gruffith in 1627; this is about the righttimescale for a son of Owen to be married. From the informationavailable there was no John Holland in Conwy who this entry could beattributed to, the only feasible John Holland would appear to be ofLlangelynnin. As he was the son of an Esquire it would be feasiblethat he married in Conwy in preference to Llangelynnin.

The first reference to Owen Holland is in a document (Baron Hill 2515)dated 1595 in which he quit claimed to Sir Richard Bulkeley ofAnglesey a meadow with the appurtenances lying in Merchlyn in thetownship of Castell. Also dated 1597 (BH2069 &70) Hugh ap John ofTrellek, Monmouthshire, quitclaimed to Owen Holland of Llangelynnin,Gent, a tenement called Ty Thyn in Kyngyrrayder, and land in Gogarthlate in the occupation of John Owen, father of Hugh ap John, both inCaernarvonshire. An indenture dated (Baron Hill 2430) dated 1598gives details of the sale of these properties by Owen Holland ofLlangelynnin to Sir Richard Bulkeley of Anglesey for the sum of £70,the same amount as he paid to Hugh Jones. It would appear that Owenwas acting in some way as an intermediary between the two parties ashe only held the land for one full year.

From the Bulkeley estate rental books of 1595 we know that OwenHolland Esquire was renting Pen Y Allt from Sir Richard Bulkeley (BH4692). The fact that Pen Y Allt is the neighbouring property to CarregY Dinas gives some credibility to the view that Owen was the son ofHumphrey, and they were most probably living alongside each other forsome years.

Owen appears in the list of householders for Llangelynnin (Wigfair MSS699) in the early 17th century.

If John ap Morgan was the origin of the Llangelynnin line, then Owenwas closely connected to the Bulkeley family of Anglesey by virtue ofthe fact that Sir Richard Bulkeley's daughter Elizabeth was married toOwen Holland of Plas Berw, the grandson of Owen, brother of MorganHolland of Eglwys Bach. Owen of Llangelynnin was also the greatgrandson of Morgan Holland via his son John.

An indenture dated 1558 relates to an arbitration concerning title toTy Thyn Carreg Y Dinas lying in the town of Castell in the Comote ofIsaph. The arbiters awarded that Owain ap Richard and Hugh ap Williamto surrender and deliver to Humphrey Holland the title to the saidtenement for the fee of forty shillings. In an early 17th century listof householders and ale house keepers within the comote of Isaph(Wigfair MSS 699) lists the names of Thomas Holland and Owen Hollandbut not Humphrey so it seems he must have been deceased by then.Assuming that he was at least 21 by the time he was awarded Carreg YDinas he was young enough to have been a son of John who is unlikelyto have married before 1510, it seems likely therefore that he was adescendant of John.
